We provide AR coating on the backside of the polarized lens for customers to choose. Here are some information about AR Coating:
What is AR COATING?
AR stands for anti-reflective. AR is a treatment for eyeglass lenses that reduces surface glare almost to zero, and allows more light to pass through your lenses. These properties are generally applied on both the front and back of lens. With reflections gone, more light passes through your lenses to optimize visual acuity with fewer distraction.
What does AR coating do?
When an anti-reflective coating is applied it cuts down on the light that passes through the glass. Without AR, light will pass through the uncoated piece of glass and about 5 percent of it will be reflected, this means that there is a total transmission of only 95 percent of the “inciting light.” When the AR coating is applied, it will increase the throughput of light through the system and will reduce any potential hazards of the light traveling back into the system; this is what causes ghost images.
If there is no AR COATING, what will happen?
Without an AR coating the backside of a dark sunglass lens will reflect light and glare. This kind of reflected light is called “bounce-back” glare. This can be distracting at best and vision impairing at worst. Without AR you will see reflections of your eyes, the skin around your eyes, your eyelashes, and objects that are behind you on the back of your lenses. Placing an AR coating on the backside of your sunglass lenses reduces this effect to a large degree.
When engaging in activities like golf, fishing, hiking, and cycling, significant amounts UV can be reflected from the backside of the lens into the eye. Particularly when the head pointed down allowing more sunlight to hit back of the wearer’s lenses. A pair of sunglasses with conventional backside anti-reflective coating protects the eyes from visible light causing increased dilation, allowing even more reflected UVR into the eye.
So, sunglasses with polarized lens that has an AR coating on the backside is the best choice for outdoor conditions.
